Old Town Art Walk

First Friday of each month, 5 – 8 PM
Year-round
Calhoun Street, Old Town Bluffton
Free

On the first Friday of every month, the galleries of Old Town Bluffton open their doors for an evening that's equal parts art show, community gathering, and neighborhood stroll. The Art Walk has been a fixture of Bluffton's cultural life for years — a free, relaxed event where you can meet the artists behind the work, sip wine on a gallery porch, and wander Calhoun Street as the evening light turns golden over the live oaks. It runs year-round, rain or shine.

What to Expect

1

Gallery Openings & New Work

Most of the galleries along Calhoun Street participate, including the Society of Bluffton Artists (SOBA) cooperative, private galleries, and working studios. Many feature new exhibitions or artist spotlights timed to the Art Walk. Expect a mix of painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics, and mixed media.

2

Meet the Artists

One of the best things about the Bluffton Art Walk is direct access to the artists themselves. Most are present in their galleries or studios, happy to talk about their work, process, and inspiration. It's a genuinely personal experience — not a commercial gallery opening.

3

Wine, Refreshments & Atmosphere

Most galleries offer wine, beer, or light refreshments. The atmosphere is relaxed and social — people move between galleries at their own pace, stopping to chat on the sidewalk or browse at leisure. Dress is casual; this is Bluffton, not Charleston.

4

The Neighborhood Itself

The Art Walk is as much about the neighborhood as the art. Calhoun Street at dusk — live oak canopy, historic storefronts, the May River visible at the end of the street — is one of the most beautiful settings in the Lowcountry. Allow time to simply walk and take it in.

Parking

Street parking along Calhoun Street and Boundary Street. The Heyward House lot (70 Boundary St) is available after hours. Arrive by 4:45 PM to find a spot before the crowds. Calhoun Street stays open to traffic during the Art Walk.

  • Wear comfortable shoes — you'll be walking on brick sidewalks and in and out of galleries for 2–3 hours.

  • The SOBA gallery (at the corner of Calhoun and Boundary) is a good starting point — it's the largest cooperative and usually has the most artists present.

  • Parking fills up by 5:30 PM. Arrive by 4:45 PM or use the Heyward House lot on Boundary Street.

  • The Art Walk runs rain or shine — galleries are indoors and the covered porches along Calhoun Street provide shelter.
